Maria Branyas Morera lived to be 117 years old

Maria Branyas Morera lived to be 117 years old with no signs of atherosclerosis, heart attack, or dementia. A recent study published in Cell Reports Medicine examines her case in detail. And the reasons for such extraordinary longevity turned out to be the following:

  • extremely low systemic inflammation,
  • high insulin sensitivity,
  • very low triglycerides,
  • a predominance of large LDL particles,
  • efficient lipid metabolism,
a healthy microbiome and active mitochondrial function. Her inflammatory markers matched those of a 20-year-old, and her epigenetic age was approximately 20 years younger than her chronological age. According to the study, she followed a Mediterranean diet, regularly consumed fermented foods like yogurt, stayed physically active every day, and remained socially engaged until the end of her life.
